Interdisciplinary Teams

The team includes a behavioral scientist from UMASS-Lowell, Linda Silka, Ph.D., conducting collaborative research with Southeast Asian populations; Steven Wing, Ph.D., a public health researcher from University of North Carolina, who is collaborating with African-American populations; Doug Brugge, Ph.D., a biomedical researcher from Tufts University School of Medicine, experienced in research ethics issues with Southwest Native American tribes and urban Chinese populations; and Dianne Quigley, social science researcher and doctoral student at Syracuse University having experience with Native American and underserved white populations affected by nuclear contamination. Phil Brown, Ph.D., a project consultant and sociologist from Brown University has worked with a number of diverse communities on community collaboration in research. All these researchers have worked with the respective communities to address environmental justice issues in health research.

The team also includes ethicists Sheldon Krimsky, Ph.D., of Tufts University and Ernest Wallwork, Ph.D., of Syracuse University; and a cultural anthropologist, Ann Gold, Ph.D., of Syracuse University. Community-based researchers also consult on the course development and implementation.
